This project was part of the second year of my Model Design and Special Effects degree programme at the University of Hertfordshire.
This 1932 Ford Model A Roadster was designed by me based on the work of Boyd Coddington. I took a standard 1932 Model A and lengthened the chassis and the bonnet. I also dropped the nose, raised the tail and designed the wheels.
This 1/6th scale concept model is made in 3mm ABS. The patterns were carved by hand in a medium density polyurethane tooling board, which were then vac-formed. The chassis is made from 6mm ABS. The seats were also carved in foam, moulded and cast in resin, retaining some of the foam’s texture. The wheels and tyres were drawn up in Adobe Illustrator, laser cut in acrylic, shaped, moulded, cast in resin and finally vacuum-metalised. The grill was photo-etched in stainless steel. The final paint job for the model is a candy orange 2-pack applied over a silver base-coat.
